BIOLUMANETICS AND CLASSICAL HOMEOPATHY
by Charles Wansbrough published The Homeopath Summer 2000 No 78
My object in writing this article is to comment on a technology I adopted from an American scientist who had spent over 20 years studying and evolving a methodology which could be used effectively with subtle energy. The process has been studied in depth by me over a two year period to elucidate its effectiveness within the ‘classical homeopathic model’.
I must summarize the main aspects of this technology before entering into a discussion of its relevance.
A more detailed exposition written by Patrick Richards himself, may be accessed on the Internet web site http://www.biolumanetics.net
Patrick Richards came upon the entire process quite accidentally when he designed a machine to balance air temperatures for efficient heat energy management. The instrument - called a Luminator - not only created a uniform temperature gradient but unexpectedly seemed to improve the health of those individuals working in its environment.
In further investigations, and over a period of eighteen years, he found that the Luminator had created an unusual electro-magnetic field whose main effects he deduced were not easily explained using present scientific paradigms.
It seemed to alter the magnetic field and using a standard magnetic compass a change of up to 38 degrees to the west from normal north was indicated. Sensitive light meters also indicated an increase in light emissions in the working area. He concluded that such an extraordinary electro-magnetic field seems to isolate individuals from those of a normal environment, creating a type of ‘null field’. As he comments on the web site, to date neither himself, nor any of his colleagues, have been able to explain this phenomena scientifically. It falls into the category of a scientific anomaly!!
Some further explorations using photography in the altered environment led him to an unexpected discovery. Photographs taken in the altered field produced anomalous images. The pictures changed; some were out of focus, some were clear, and some had multiple images. Using the same photographic procedure in a normal environment did not produce similar images.
By trial and error, over many years, he was able to draw certain conclusions about these photographic images.
Photographs of people suffering health challenges were vague and distorted.
Photographic images of healthy individuals were clear and crisp.
In other words a photograph taken in the environment that came out clear represented a coherent and stable state of health, while any incoherent images represented incoherent states of ill health.
He then noticed that by introducing different materials, one at a time, into the field of the patient, and then taking a photograph the images captured changed. He was then able to draw further conclusions that a correct prescription changed the photographic image to that of a clear picture, which always restored vitality and health to that individual.
Furthermore, by the introduction of various different medical interventions ranging from the subtle effects of homeopathic medicines, acupuncture intervention, the use of Ayurvedic medicine, and even orthodox drugs, the photographic assessment as to the degree of coherence that individuals demonstrated in respect to all these different modalities, gave crucial information in restoring coherence and health to that individual.
Patrick coined the term ‘bioliminal’, coming from the Greek bios –life and limen –the limit below which a stimulus is not perceived, to indicate the nature of this phenomenon.
The term was specifically tailored to study and legitimize this area of research, and emphasize the subtle nature of this investigation since by using the bioliminal field one is able to gain information below the threshold of conscious awareness, which will enhance or detract from the coherence of the healthy state. When the individual lacks sufficient integration to exist in harmony with his changing environmental conditions, it is possible to introduce subtle energy information into the field of the individual to restore harmony. Using Bio-Liminal Photographic imagery it is possible to assess the degree of coherence an individual displays in respect to the various effects of subtle energetic information.
Various explanations have been put forward for this phenomenon, though none to date can be proved, the most acceptable is in terms of bio-photon emission.
Dr. Fritz-Albert Popp, bio-physicist, at the Max Plank Institute in Germany, who investigated the nature of light emissions from organisms over 20 years, concluded that the characteristics of light emitted by diverse organisms, point to the existence of a coherent photon field underlying the organization of all living organisms.
In designing his technology, Patrick Richards, altered the normal electromagnetic field, not only by changing the magnetic dipole in the environment but also by changing the quality of light in that environment. The effects of the machine on the air molecules are to cause the room light to change from scattered or incoherent light to lighting which is in phase (laser like in quality) and coherent with the light emitted by the cells of all materials within this environment.
By creating this altered field, and thereby changing the nature of the environment so that in effect all materials including life-forms are effectively in phase, it was found that the quality and quantity of light being emitted by the cells of living organisms varied according to the degree of integration they showed with respect to their own health and the environmental challenges present.
In effect, in terms of a homeopathic model, the technology has ‘potentised the environment’, rendered the environment subtle in some strange way, that enabled the effects of a homeopathic remedy to register its effects on the energetic system of the individual by being caught on a photographic image. The only acceptable parameter of change that Patrick managed to surmise as genuine was his observation on the nature of the changing images and their propensity to increase in clarity when an optimum therapeutic intervention was held in the vicinity of the individual. In other words, correct remedies demonstrated a peak resonance phenomenon by increasing the clarity and photon emission on a captured image.
This rather improbable sequence of events, seems to validate the subtle model of medicine, that implies that subtle remedies (in whatever form) seem to influence and act on levels of the body-mind complex that remain outside the realms of scientific scrutiny. It also implies a model of life-forms as dynamic systems in a state of continuous flux that are required to continually adapt themselves in order to maintain levels of well being and harmony. A failure to do so may result in illness or even death of that organism. A correct homeopathic remedy acts as a source of information, and a particular transcript from nature, that energetically redresses incoherence and conveys the optimum signal of balance to that individual.
When such a source of information is introduced into the energetic field of that individual, it is evaluated by the internal adaptive resources unique to that subject and a reaction response is triggered. When the reaction response is positive there is an increase in the quantity of photons (light) being emitted by the cells. A negative reaction response creates a reduction in the quantity of photon (light) emissions and a distortion in the image photographed.
When Patrick Richards first stumbled upon this phenomenon, through a stroke of luck, because of his background in the sciences, he refused to acknowledge the possibility of such an improbable process. For some five years, he studied the process assiduously until he could begin to accept the sheer magnitude of the observable fact.
Once he had overcome his own skepticism, he realized the immense potential of such a prognostic system, for it provided an unusual therapeutic tool to evaluate the outcome potentials of a wide variety of different materials (be it a drug, vitamin, homeopathic remedy, Chinese herb etc).
It is a unique process that provides enormous scope for research since it creates a tool to observe the outcome potentials of a wide variety of different therapeutic interventions.
My initial response to the entire process was one of deep scepticism, having spent some years researching and working in various therapeutic modalities, including homeopathy and I was not particularly taken with the improbability of such a phenomenon. When I met Patrick, he was using his own modified subtle medicines, which he had named chelates, and though his results with his methodology seemed to be very good, it was as a homeopath that I decided to investigate the validity of his technology.
My interest was aroused when he admitted that he had tried a number of different medical modalities and used his bioliminal imaging technology to check the validity of these modalities. In theory he said that one should be able to find the correct solution in any health modality using his technology. I decided to take up this challenge and explore the potential limits of this technology with regard to homeopathy.
He had approached a number of homeopaths, but they had shown little interest in his technology, so assuming his observations to be correct I decided to evaluate his model and observations in terms of the predominant homeopathic model, ‘the classical model of homeopathy’.
As the interpretation of the term "classical homeopathy" appears to vary widely, my own understanding of this methodology is as follows. My aim is to find, to the best of my ability, a single remedy that matches the entire mental, emotional and pathological problems of the patient. Furthermore, I have subsumed the scientific metaphor of resonance meaning that a correct or optimum remedy will resonate to a peak state with the configuration of the patient. I have also assumed that clarity and high photon emission indicate the optimum state of peak resonance that I can find at the moment of the therapeutic encounter. My wish was to evaluate whether Patrick’s observations regarding the clarity of the photographic image indicated an optimum homeopathic remedy at that moment in time. This is not to interpret this optimum remedy as the ‘simillimum’ because this concept appears biased in favour of the strange belief that individuals need only one remedy for life; nevertheless it can be interpreted to indicate the best possible remedy at the time of the prescription.
In theory, the ‘classical homeopath’ engages in a process of case-taking which includes a clinical diagnosis and full history of the patient’s illness together with a profile of their personality in terms of their mental, emotional and psychological makeup. After this process has taken place, the homeopath then proceeds to assess the most likely remedy that matches this profile and hopefully, after the correct prescription, the patient returns in a month with a dramatic improvement of their health. If the prescription was not effective, then another assessment is made and another remedy prescribed hopefully with better results.
The core assumption of the ‘classical model’ is that a correct remedy will produce dramatic results and most competent homeopaths will aspire to this particularly difficult ideal. I decided to test whether Patrick Richards’ technology would assist one in achieving this ideal. Would photographic clarity indicate the simillimum and therefore result in a dramatic change of health in a given individual?
The efficacy of homeopathy has always depended upon the experience and skill of the practitioner. However, having said this, each prescription tends to fall into the category of "guesstimation" - a plausible guess. There are no correct prescriptions until the patient returns with a complete evaluation of the effect of the remedy. It is a ‘virtual prescription’ until the patient returns confirming the accuracy of that prescription. The homeopath is a skilled interpreter of symptoms. The initial guess is invariably a product of the homeopath’s training and his outlook on life. Together they create the best probable insight that will lead to a correct prescription.
The questions that had to be evaluated were:
‘Could this technology help in this process of eliminating or reducing the uncertainty of ‘the guesstimated’ prescription?
‘Could the technology help to confirm the best similar and would the resultant clarity elicit a dramatic change in the health of the individual?
‘Would the ‘the law of similars’ be sufficiently flexible to elicit clarity and change, since Patrick had modified the energetic solutions in his own unique way?
The evaluation regarding all three questions has now been carried out over a period of two years and the answer has been a resounding ‘yes’ in respect of all three questions.
Ironically, what I had not anticipated in this evaluation, was that by constraining myself to try and elicit clarity in every case, it would turn out to be such a difficult process that has not only forced me to increase my materia medica by exponential amounts but has also brought me to admire those individuals who aspire to this model of homeopathy. My own journey trying to interface this technology with ‘classical homeopathy’ has forced me to abandon many outdated precepts and even modify some of those observations made in the name of Hahnemann. Since the entire process was initially daunting, I decided that it might be easier and not so tiring if I engaged another homeopath to work with me. Patrick Richards himself found this to be essential in his own practice.
The protocol evolved is simple. My colleague (Kieran Linnane) and I, invariably take up to two hours for both the first and any subsequent appointments.
(1). The patient arrives and a base photograph is taken in the ‘altered field’; this acts to establish a baseline of coherence.
(2). Then a homeopathic case is taken for an hour.
(3) We analyze the case homeopathically and then look for the correct prescription by asking the patient to hold possible remedies until a photograph becomes crystal clear.
We limit ourselves to taking ten photographs, both because of the expense of taking Polaroid photos, and also because if we have not produced any sort of clarity within this time, we not only lose our own focus of attention on the case but also are very unlikely to find the correct remedy after a certain period of time spent with the patient. There is a window of opportunity that decreases exponentially with time, since each image taken represents a well evaluated prescription that on failing to gain clarity implies a wrong interpretation. The technology only confirms your own skills if you are up to the challenge, but does help or point one in the direction of a correct prescription. At times this can be a daunting prospect, and if clarity is not obtained at the first appointment, we charge a nominal fee and ask the patient to return for another appointment.
We have found that a correct prescription for that patient at that moment in time will invariably alter the photographic image and produce clarity. A correct prescription that has a dramatic effect on the health of the patient is almost always associated with a completely clear image.
AN EXAMPLE
This is a very brief synopsis of a case which can be found on my website under Androctonus A protocol . A homeopathic case was taken of a seventy year old female with no significant health problems, except for some arthritis of the left hip, and an ongoing problem with constipation which had started in her late teens and for which she had taken laxatives and various other medicaments for over fifty years. She had been to various health practitioners for this severe problem but resorted to controlling it through a stringent diet and an unhealthy use of laxatives.
Various homeopathic remedies had been given by other practitioners over the years but nothing had ever improved the constipation.
After taking the case, we decided that her personality and drive corresponded to that of an animal remedy, most probably a spider. We photographed the patient with the remedies Mygale, Lacerta Agilis, Sharks tooth, Tarentula cubensis and Apis, until we gained a modicum of clarity with Tarentula Hispanica. This was prescribed (six tablets of 200C potency) and the patient returned after a month, stating that the remedy had worked while she was taking the tablets and for a little while afterwards but that two weeks later her constipation had returned. The prognosis was that it was a close similar but not quite precise enough. On re-evaluating the case we decided that Androctonus might be a suitable remedy; the photographic image showed clarity and so she was given LM to take for a few months, the case was successful and the constipation and arthritis cleared within three months after reaching LM3. For full details of this case we refer the reader to our homeopathic website.
This case demonstrates the ideal classic response to a remedy but together with the prognostic capabilities of the technology it brings another level of surety and certainty to the entire homeopathic therapeutic process.
Further cases using this protocol can be found on the website. It has taken me two years to evaluate the process and though it works very effectively, I had not bargained for the immense amount of work and study I have been forced into, regarding my own limited knowledge of materia medica.
It has been a daunting task trying to match and consolidate the prognostic technology against our knowledge of homeopathy, and ironically has forced my colleague and I into a position of complete honesty and integrity, for the entire session and dialogue created between patient and practitioner has been drastically changed. We, as practitioners of homeopathy, are no longer in positions of power and certain knowledge; our roles have been subtly changed to those of mediators where we hope that our knowledge matches the therapeutic encounter.
It is a unique situation and differs from most other therapeutic models by assessing disharmony in terms of clear solutions with a minimum of intervention, since its role is ultimately to empower a patient to find his own solutions and this is augmented considerably by the visual certainty that a clear image brings to the process.
The novelty of combining the bioliminal technology with the classical methodology of homeopathy is for the practitioner to reduce his ‘guesstimations’ of the correct remedy and for the patient to empower himself by being able to assess his state of health and engage in a therapeutic process of well-being.
It has been an arduous journey trying to interface the prognostic clarity of the technology with my own skills as a homeopath, and has forced me into a constant process of improvement for each therapeutic encounter encapsulates a dialogue of solutions.
The process in some ways has made ‘classical homeopathy’ very much more arduous, since it is clear that each patient has a unique set of symptoms and no rote prescribing or excessive poly-pharmacy would benefit the situation, though I do believe a very skilled practitioner of poly-pharmacy might manage since the criticism of not knowing which remedy did the job ceases to have relevance with a prognostic technology. I have found enough difficulty at times finding even good enough remedies and so cannot comment on how far a poly-remedy approach might work, but what the technology has certainly done for me, is to train me to a level of skill that I thought would not have been possible. Ironically it is not a technology that actually gives out solutions to problems and therefore is unlike many of the other technologies being sold on the open market; it only confirms or negates your own skill and renders one cognizant of how little one really knows as a homeopath and how humility , intuition and faith come to play a major role in the therapeutic encounter. Nevertheless as a research tool and ‘master teacher’ it remains unparalleled in the homeopathic community today.
Each patient comes face to face with his own process of clarity since each image is an instant assessment of a potential outcome and he can anticipate his own state of well-being and assess the integrity and the capabilities of his practitioner.
Perhaps the dialogue between individual and outcome was far better understood by medieval philosophers.
Robert Grosseteste, a medieval scholar (1175-1253) who is widely regarded to be one of the first true scientists, wrote a small masterpiece De Luce. In it, he describes the story of creation in terms of the modification of light. To this scholar, light possessed two aspects; one aspect was the light of our physical existence condensed into matter, and the other aspect was a light of intelligence embodied in the purely spiritual realms of the Godhead. Here perhaps we are seeing the light of intelligence being communicated through the process of biolumanetics imagery!
At present, the entire process still lies within the domain of research, and Patrick Richards is not at present interested in selling any of the technology to any third party, since only a few machines have been created for the sole purpose of evaluating their efficacy in interfacing with subtle medicine. My own interest for the moment is to try and evaluate how it can effectively be used for the purposes of training our profession to a greater degree of clarity. A research centre has been created using this particular modality and some of the research findings may be found on an online journal website
Explanations regarding the technology and Patrick’s own use of his modified medicine can be found on website http://www.biolumanetics.net.
A research centre treating patients using both homeopathy and Patrick’s chelated medicines has been set up at:
